Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique in which a special instrument called a laparoscope is inserted through a small incision in the abdominal wall.
The laparoscope contains a camera that transmits images of the surgical area to a screen for the surgeon to view. The operation is then performed using special instruments and through further small incisions in the abdominal wall.
In contrast to open abdominal surgery, in which a large incision is made in the abdominal wall to expose the surgical area, laparoscopic surgery is less invasive. The advantage of this technique is that it can be associated with less pain and a faster recovery.
Laparoscopy can be used for a variety of operations in gynecology, such as endometriosis resection, fallopian tube patency testing, removal of ovarian cysts, removal of ovaries, myoma resection, loosening of adhesions and removal of the uterus.
Denis Faoro is specially trained in this surgical technique and has been training numerous gynecologists in this surgical technique for GESEA swiss at sitem-insel in Bern for years.
