The vaginal natural orifice surgical technique (V-NOTES) is a minimally invasive surgical technique in which the surgical site is accessed via the vagina.
V-NOTES is also known as transvaginal laparoscopic surgery.
Compared to conventional laparoscopic surgery, in which the surgical area is accessed through several small incisions in the abdominal skin, the V-NOTES technique is even less invasive and can lead to a faster recovery and less post-operative pain.
In the V-NOTES surgical technique, a special instrument called an endoscope is inserted into the abdominal cavity through the vagina. The endoscope contains a camera that transmits images of the surgical area to a screen for the surgeon to view. The operation is then performed using special instruments inserted through the vagina.
V-NOTES can be used for a variety of minimally invasive surgeries, such as the removal of the uterus, ovarian cysts or ovaries, for ectopic pregnancies and for sterilization.
The V-NOTES technique has some potential advantages over other minimally invasive surgical techniques, but it also requires a specially trained team and is not suitable for all patients. Denis Faoro will be happy to provide you with more detailed information about this surgical technique during your consultation.
